Review of algebra, graph of line, slope. Limits and derivatives (standard functions, compositions of such functions), derivative for polynomials, exponentials, logarithms. Product, quotient and chain rule. Optimization (extrema), application to business problems. Newton's method.

Students have 6 months to complete the course and 8 attempts to pass the final exam. This course is Pass/Fail. Students must get 80% or above on the exam to pass the course. The purpose of this class is for students to understand the idea of a derivative and how to use it to optimize a function.
Prerequisites
MATH 110 (College Algebra) or equivalent.
